Background & Experience
It was while volunteering at an Early Intervention Centre and later as a Relief Teacher, Elaine found her passion for working with children and how meaningful it was to help develop and strengthen the skills in those with delays or concerns. After graduating as a Speech Therapist, Elaine worked in community hospitals under supervision, before starting work in the social service sector. Since then she has spent 4 years working as a Speech Therapist at an early intervention centre, within preschools and at client’s home before starting work at a private therapy clinic.
Approach
Elaine believes that a strong partnership between the therapist and client’s family is vital to facilitate progress in the child. She works closely with families to identify client goals that are meaningful and important to them, and actively involves parents in home practice to follow up on strategies learnt during therapy sessions. She is particularly interested in intervention related to social skills and literacy and likes working with older students to help prepare them for further education or employment.
Personal
In her spare time Elaine enjoys playing the piano often playing to her sister, who has Intellectual Disability, as it makes her feel calmer.
