Background & Experience
Laila began her journey working with children in 2009 when she began assisting at a childcare centre. Her passion was ignited and moving forward, she worked in various early childhood education settings including childcare, local and international preschools in Singapore. She pursued her studies to completing a Masters in Education. During her years working in the ECE industry, she had multiple children with a range of challenges enter her classroom and she often felt lost in supporting them. Determined to build one her skillset in this area she embarked on a career in Occupational Therapy. Upon completing her Occupational Therapy studies in 2020, Laila has worked in Singapore in clinics and schools. She truly enjoys working with children one to one and investigating their needs with them, building their confidence and helping them find success in their academic, social and personal lives.
Approach
Laila believes raising children is a collaborative effort and works to build strong partnerships with the child’s family, teaching staff and other professionals in order to provide a holistic approach. Communication is key and she strives to provide a safe space for children to feel comfortable exploring their challenges. Using a strengths based approach is at the core of Laila’s therapy sessions. Working towards building grit (mental resilience), self-understanding and self-compassion alongside concrete observable skills such as executive functioning skills, gross motor skills and fine motor skills.
