Background & Experience
Chelsey has a broad range of experience working as an Occupational Therapist in Canada, the UK, and Hong Kong. Initially, she worked with adults in private and hospital settings. In 2011 she began her journey of working with children alongside the adults who love and support them. She consulted with private practices in Hong Kong and Canada, providing clinic-based services while actively building home and school-based options for families that needed more wrap- around care. Chelsey built strong partnerships within international, private and publicly funded schools, offering in depth consultation and therapy services within their environment. Chelsey has welcomed opportunities within her workplaces to facilitate peer training and mentorship, and has had the opportunity to present to parent groups, teachers and colleagues on a variety of topics. Her pursuit of professional development opportunities with ICDL, Profectum and Play Project have helped her hone her skills within the DIRFloortimeⓒ Approach. Additionally, she has completed her SIPT Level 1, and is certified to offer Therapeutic Listening, iLS Focus System, and Safe and Sound Protocol in her sessions. She has completed Handwriting Without Tears, 30 Hour Radiant Child Yoga, a variety of Parent Coaching Courses, and Neurodevelopmental Treatment for Autism. In her spare time she listens to countless podcasts and books by professionals inside and outside her field, gleaning insights and reflections from the fields of neuroscience, neurodiverse-affirming care, trauma-sensitive practice, sensory integration, intersectionality, attachment, co-regulation, psychology, parenting and pedagogy.
Approach
Chelsey’s approach is relational, dynamic, neurodiverse-affirming and strengths-based, as she focuses on uncovering the unique capacities and experiences of each child she interacts with. She is a strong communicator, collaborator and advocate, knowing that the best chance for positive outcomes happen when everyone at the table feels, seen, heard and valued. She thrives on active partnerships with parents, teachers and other professionals for enhancing and refining children’s opportunities for engagement in their play and learning spaces.
Personal
Chelsey is most at ease when in nature, moving her body and in the company of her family and friends. She is deeply empathetic and curious, loves to travel, play sports, eat delicious food and listen to music.
