Background & Experience
Ruth’s background is in psychology, neuroscience and child mental health. She studied Psychology with Neuroscience before completing a Master’s in Child Forensics, and began her career working in child mental health research.
Her interest in human behaviour and psychology has been a constant throughout her life and ultimately led her to counselling. Ruth holds a Master of Counselling and enjoys working alongside people as they navigate life’s challenges. For Ruth, one of the most rewarding parts of counselling is seeing people grow through the process and reach a point where they feel ready to move forward.
Ruth counsels children, young people and adults, with particular experience supporting neurodiverse clients and those with complex trauma. Her experience also includes counselling children and young people within a large international school in Singapore, where she worked as part of a highly experienced counselling team across a broad range of ages, needs and challenges.
Approach
Ruth uses an integrative approach to counselling, grounded in the belief that everybody is unique. She approaches each person with genuine curiosity.
Central to Ruth’s work is creating a safe, trusting therapeutic relationship where people can feel heard, understood and able to be themselves. She is passionate about continuing to learn and develop as a counsellor and sees each new approach, technique or course as another tool added to her growing counselling toolbox, allowing her to bring a broad and flexible range of skills to her work.
Personal
Outside of counselling, Ruth is a mum to two boys and loves long walks, being in nature, health and wellbeing and learning new things. She brings warmth, curiosity and a healthy sense of humour to both life and her work.
